Muddy Feet Holiday Sessions

We love celebrating holidays and seasonal changes with special one off sessions.

In the past we have run easter sessions, a halloween special and summer and winter solstice play sessions. Watch this space or follow us on Facebook for upcoming one-off Muddy Feet events in school holidays.

“A well organised yet entirely child led session. Plenty of suggested activities, yet no dictation. Gives parents ideas of things they could replicate. And so nice to be outdoors, in beautiful surroundings.”

🌳Survive the Wilderwood, Beat the Monsters, Open the Portal! 🌳

“Daniel had such a great time today and has told us lots about his woodland adventures! Thank you so much 🌳🍁🍄”

Get your kids off their screens and out into the woods for our WILDCRAFT ADVENTURE FULL DAY sessions, open to children aged 6 and over. These sessions will run on selected dates throughout school holidays and we be held at our site in Tollerton.

Inspired by video games like “Minecraft” our Wildcraft Adventure Day takes many of the things kids love about their favourite video games and transforms them into an outdoor experience that kids will love . Over the day, children will be set a number of challenges, where they have to work together, learn outdoor skills and earn points along the way. Players will light their own campfire, “mine” for resources and use tools to complete the challenges.

Children must bring own lunch and water bottle. Throughout the day we will enjoy marshmallows and hot chocolate around the campfire.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: Please note that due to COVID-19 there will be several additional safety measures in place during sessions to ensure that we are social distancing and minimising the spread of the virus. Restrictions will include the following:

  1. Limited numbers attending
  2. Bring your own mugs and cups
  3. Social distancing around the fire circle
  4. Activities which don’t include shared equipment

Full details of how sessions will be adapted during this time will be given once you make a booking and you can find more information here. But if you have any questions in advance, just get in touch.

What is Muddy Feet Outdoor Playgroup?

Muddy Feet is an outdoor, all weather playgroup, held in Edwalton and Tollerton. We follow the Forest School ethos, encouraging and enabling children to experience nature and the outdoors. We aim to let children explore and learn through nature, with the emphasis on child-led play and letting them get their hands dirty. All sessions will be lead by a Forest Schools trained practitioner, Fran Groombridge. Holiday sessions have no lower age limit and are open to all preschool and primary school aged children.

Where is the site?

The Tollerton site is accessed via St Peter’s Church Centre, Tollerton Lane, Tollerton, NG12 4FT. We will meet outside the main entrance to the Church Centre each week, where we will take a register before walking into the woods. If you are unable to attend or are running late, please let us know so that we can head into the woods and meet you there.

Please note that your child is your responsibility whilst attending Muddy Feet Outdoor Playgroup. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

What will a typical Muddy Feet session be like?

Our sessions will begin around the Forest Circle. Each week there will be an activity to encourage play and creativity available to the children. The rest of the session will be very much child-led, with us providing opportunities for the children to explore our forest area. Tea and fruit / cake will be provided around the Forest Circle.

What activities can I expect?

We will begin each session with a story around the Forest Circle, which will inspire our activities. Each session there will be an art / craft activity introduced. This could range from making jingle sticks, doing bark rubbings, building an elf house, making a mud creature or weaving a natural crown. The activities will be guided by what the children are interested in. The rest of the session will be very much child-led. We will set up opportunities for the children to explore, for example providing pots and pans for a mud kitchen, or planks for them to walk along, but the sessions are not prescribed, we will be led by what the children want to do.

How much does it cost?

For each school holiday session, the costs are as follows:

£10 / per session for one child

£8 / per session for additional siblings

£6 / per session for pre-walking children

Pre-walking siblings go FREE!

**Wildcraft full day sessions are £30 per child**

What does my child need to bring?

As we are an all weather, all year round playgroup, your child will need appropriate clothing, and as you know the weather here in Britain can be unpredictable! We suggest for all sessions:

  • An all in one waterproof

  • Wellies / walking boots / sturdy shoes

  • Water

Then, depending on the weather;

  • Sunhat

  • Suncream

  • Extra layers

  • Hat

  • Gloves

What do you mean by all weather?

Here at Muddy Feet, we follow the philosophy ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad equipment!’ So we will be venturing out in all weathers, throughout the year. There are only two conditions in which we are unable to venture out for safety reasons and these are high winds and thunderstorms.

What if it is raining?

As mentioned above, we will be holding the playgroup in all weathers, but we want to make you as comfortable as we can, whilst enjoying the outdoors! We have two large tarpaulins that we will bring with us and if necessary we will use these to construct a shelter to hold the session in. Tea and snacks will be provided to keep you warm as well!

What about hand washing and toilets?

Due to the nature of the playgroup, children will get muddy and dirty! However a hand washing station will be set up by the Forest Circle enabling children (and adults) to wash their hands before eating snacks. At the Tollerton site we have access to an indoor space with toilets and handwashing facilities. For more information about COVID restrictions, click here.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We look forward to meeting you at your first Muddy Feet session for some fun and frolics in the woods!
