Muddy Feet Sessions
We are SO PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE that our MUDDY FEET SESSIONS are starting BACK!
After a LOT of waiting, guidance and planning we are so happy that we are able to run our Forest school sessions again – with a new, improved twist!
All of our sessions at present will take place at our beautiful site in Tollerton where we have plenty of space to adhere to the social distancing guidelines.
We have implemented a new “tippy tap” hand washing system and will have hand gel stations in the woods. We have also implemented a new system for serving drinks so you can still have a hot chocolate in the woods– you will receive your own individual refreshment packs and we will provide recyclable single use cups or you are invited to bring your own reusable safety mug. ☕☕
We have implemented rigorous cleaning procedures for our toilets and for the foreseeable future we will be running smaller groups.
Sessions are pre-booked in a half term block, so we will create a small “bubble” of parents and children attending. Block booking will include a ‘subscription fee’ for which you will receive your own Muddy Feet kit bag 🔎🎒with resources in to use in the sessions – minimising the use of shared resources.🎒🎒 This kit bag is yours to keep and bring along to the sessions – you could even add some of your own kit!
Sessions are booked online as usual – booking details will be kept for Track and Trace purposes.
We ask you to adhere to current government guidance and to not attend a session if you or a member of your household displays any symptoms of Covid-19.

What is Muddy Feet Outdoor Playgroup?
Muddy Feet is an outdoor, all weather playgroup for children under 5, held at St Peter’s Church Centre in Tollerton. We follow the Forest School ethos, encouraging and enabling children to experience nature and the outdoors. We aim to let children explore and learn through nature, with the emphasis on child-led play and letting them get their hands dirty. All sessions will be lead by a Forest Schools trained practitioner, Fran Groombridge.
Where is the site?
The Tollerton site is accessed via St Peter’s Church Centre, Tollerton Lane, Tollerton, NG12 4FT. We will meet outside the main entrance to the Church Centre each week, where we will take a register before walking into the woods. If you are unable to attend or are running late, please let us know so that we can head into the woods and meet you there.
Please note that your child is your responsibility whilst attending Muddy Feet Outdoor Playgroup. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
What will a typical Muddy Feet session be like?
Our sessions will begin at 10.30am around the Forest Circle. Each week there will be an activity to encourage play and creativity available to the children. The rest of the session will be very much child-led, with us providing opportunities for the children to explore our forest area. Refreshments will be available throughout session around the Forest Circle.
What activities can I expect?
We will begin each session with a story around the Forest Circle, which will inspire our activities. Each week there will be an art / craft activity introduced. This could range from making jingle sticks, doing bark rubbings, building an elf house, making a mud creature or weaving a natural crown. The activities will be guided by what the children are interested in. The rest of the session will be very much child-led. We will set up opportunities for the children to explore, for example providing pots and pans for a mud kitchen, or planks for them to walk along, but the sessions are not prescribed, we will be led by what the children want to do.
How much does it cost?
For the weekly sessions, the costs are as follows:
£10 / per session for one child
£8 / per session for additional siblings
£7 / per session for pre-walking children
Pre-walking siblings go FREE!
Bookings must be in half term blocks to get the full Forest School experience and ensure we can create a small “bubble” of parents and children attending.
What does my child need to bring?
As we are an all weather, all year round playgroup, your child will need appropriate clothing, and as you know the weather here in Britain can be unpredictable! We suggest for all sessions:
An all in one waterproof
Wellies / walking boots / sturdy shoes
Then, depending on the weather;
What do you mean by all weather?
Here at Muddy Feet, we follow the philosophy ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad equipment!’ So we will be venturing out in all weathers, throughout the year. There are only two conditions in which we are unable to venture out for safety reasons and these are high winds and thunderstorms.
What if it is raining?
As mentioned above, we will be holding the playgroup in all weathers, but we want to make you as comfortable as we can, whilst enjoying the outdoors! We have two large tarpaulins that we will bring with us and if necessary we will use these to construct a shelter to hold the session in. Tea and snacks will be provided to keep you warm as well!
What about hand washing and toilets?
Due to the nature of the playgroup, children will get muddy and dirty! We have implemented a new “tippy tap” hand washing system and will have hand gel stations in the woods enabling children (and adults) to wash their hands before eating snacks. We have access to an indoor space with toilets and handwashing facilities and have implemented rigorous cleaning procedures for our toilets. For more information about COVID restrictions, click here.
Does Muddy Feet cater for schools and youth groups?
