Mini Muddies Sessions
We are SO PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE our brand new MINI MUDDIES SESSIONS!
This September 2020 we will be starting our new weekly “Mini Muddies” sessions here at Muddy Feet designed especially for the under 2.5s! We have been running Parent and Child sessions for over 5 years now (these have no lower age limit and this will continue to be the case!) However we have decided due to popular demand, to run a separate session for our littlest Muddy Feeters!
Our sessions will take place at our beautiful woodland site in Tollerton where we have access to an indoor space if necessary as well as toilets and a kitchen! We will endeavour to hold our session outdoors in all weather – but in the colder months may run part of the session inside and part out.
Our Mini Muddies will run for one hour and will be booked in half term blocks. A half term booking will include a “sub” for which you will receive your own Muddy Feet Kit bag containing sensory and natural items to use in the session.
We follow the Forest School ethos so our sessions are very child-led. We have a range of items to encourage play and exploration of the natural world such as our mud kitchen, water wall, big bubbles and woodland swing. We have no lower age limit for these sessions as we believe that there are so many benefits for all ages in spending time outdoors in nature, in all weather. We also want to create a safe, friendly natural space for parents and carers to enjoy with their little ones, so hot drinks and snacks are also provided.
We ask you to adhere to current government guidance and to not attend a session if you or a member of your household displays any symptoms of Covid-19. You can find information about our COVID-19 procedures here.
Term-time sessions are at:
St Peter’s Church Centre in Tollerton
Sessions are all booked in a half term block – £7/session + a one off sub for your own kit bag)
Places are limited and pre-booking is required.

What is Mini Muddies?
Muddy Feet is an outdoor, all weather playgroup for children under 2.5 years., held at St Peter’s Church Centre in Tollerton. We follow the Forest School ethos, encouraging and enabling children to experience nature and the outdoors. We aim to let children explore and learn through nature, with the emphasis on child-led play and letting them get their hands dirty. All sessions will be lead by a Forest Schools trained practitioner, Fran Groombridge.
Where is the site?
The Tollerton site is accessed via St Peter’s Church Centre, Tollerton Lane, Tollerton, NG12 4FT. We will meet outside the main entrance to the Church Centre each week, where we will take a register before walking into the woods. If you are unable to attend or are running late, please let us know so that we can head into the woods and meet you there. We have access to an indoor space if necessary as well as toilets and a kitchen! We will endeavour to hold our session outdoors in all weather – but in the colder months may run part of the session inside and part out.
Please note that your child is your responsibility whilst attending Muddy Feet Outdoor Playgroup. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
What will a typical Muddy Feet session be like?
Sessions begin with a song and story in the woodland. Each week there will be an art/natural play/sensory activity such as printing, natural painting or making sensory bottles to encourage play and creativity available to the children. The rest of the session will be very much child-led, with us providing opportunities for the children to explore our forest area. Refreshments will be available throughout session around the Forest Circle.
What activities can I expect?
We will begin each session with a story around the Forest Circle, which will inspire our activities. Each week there will be an art / craft activity introduced. This could range from making jingle sticks, doing bark rubbings, building an elf house, making a mud creature or weaving a natural crown. The activities will be guided by what the children are interested in. The rest of the session will be very much child-led. We will set up opportunities for the children to explore, for example providing pots and pans for a mud kitchen, or planks for them to walk along, but the sessions are not prescribed, we will be led by what the children want to do.
How much does it cost?
For the weekly sessions, the costs are £7 / per session for each child.
Bookings must be in half term blocks to get the full Forest School experience and ensure we can create a small “bubble” of parents and children attending.
What does my child need to bring?
As we are an all weather, all year round playgroup, your child will need appropriate clothing, and as you know the weather here in Britain can be unpredictable! We suggest for all sessions:
An all in one waterproof
Wellies / walking boots / sturdy shoes
Then, depending on the weather;
What if it is raining?
Our sessions will take place at our beautiful woodland site in Tollerton where we have access to an indoor space if necessary as well as toilets and a kitchen! We will endeavour to hold our session outdoors in all weather – but in the colder months may run part of the session inside and part out. Tea and snacks will be provided to keep you warm as well!
What about hand washing and toilets?
Due to the nature of the playgroup, children will get muddy and dirty! We have implemented a new “tippy tap” hand washing system and will have hand gel stations in the woods enabling children (and adults) to wash their hands before eating snacks. We have access to an indoor space with toilets and handwashing facilities and have implemented rigorous cleaning procedures for our toilets.
Does Muddy Feet cater for schools and youth groups?
Schools/Preschools – we are able to offer sessions for primary and preschools these can be held at our site in Tollerton or at your location. These can be linked to the curriculum and can be booked as individual events or a block of sessions. Please get in touch to discuss.
Youth groups – we offer sessions for youth groups such as Brownies/Scouts. These can be linked to badges the children may be working towards and include activities such as den building / fire lighting. Please get in touch for more information.
If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to meeting you at your first Muddy Feet session for some fun and frolics in the woods!
